In recent months, protests surrounding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations have escalated dramatically across the United States, from Minneapolis to St. Cloud and beyond. What began as demonstrations against deportation policies has increasingly turned hostile, with reports of clashes between protesters and law enforcement leading to arrests, injuries, and even fatalities. For instance, the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Macklin Good by an ICE officer in Minneapolis sparked nationwide outrage and large-scale protests, where tensions boiled over into confrontations. Similarly, an ICE raid at a St. Cloud mall drew thousands, resulting in physical altercations as agents and demonstrators clashed. These incidents highlight a concerning trend: while many start peacefully, the risk of unintentional harm—to protesters, officers, and bystanders—is growing amid the chaos.

At MAGA Buzz PAC, we recognize the vital role of peaceful protest in a democratic society. The First Amendment guarantees the right to assemble and speak out against government actions, and this freedom is the bedrock of American liberty. Protests have historically driven change, from civil rights marches to anti-war rallies, allowing citizens to voice grievances and hold leaders accountable. In the context of immigration policy, where debates rage over enforcement and border security, peaceful demonstrations ensure diverse viewpoints are heard without descending into disorder.

However, not all actions fall under protected speech. Harassing, taunting, or impeding law enforcement crosses the line into unprotected territory under the First Amendment. The Supreme Court has long held that speech inciting imminent lawless action, true threats, or fighting words are not shielded. In recent ICE protests, we’ve seen instances where agitators block agents, throw objects, or engage in direct confrontations—behaviors that endanger lives and undermine legitimate dissent. This isn’t free expression; it’s disruption that can lead to tragedy, as evidenced by the surge in violence against journalists and officers at these events. Such tactics not only fail to advance causes but also provide fodder for those seeking to discredit all protesters.

To address this, we propose establishing a 100-foot perimeter around ICE operations and facilities during protests. This buffer zone would allow demonstrators to exercise their First Amendment rights—chanting, holding signs, and raising awareness—while maintaining a safe distance to prevent physical altercations. Similar measures have been upheld in court for abortion clinics and other sensitive sites, balancing expression with public safety. A 100-foot rule ensures protesters remain visible and audible without risking unintentional harm, such as accidental injuries during arrests or escalations. It protects officers from immediate threats, reducing the need for defensive force, and safeguards participants from crowd surges or crossfire.

This approach aligns with President Trump’s emphasis on law and order while respecting constitutional freedoms. We’ve seen the dangers of unchecked proximity in places like Arizona, where ICE arrests at courthouses led to heated standoffs and due process concerns. Nationwide, demonstrations against migration policies surged in 2025, often in states hit hard by enforcement operations, amplifying risks. By implementing perimeters, we can de-escalate without stifling voices.

In a democracy, peaceful protest strengthens us, but chaos weakens us all. Let’s prioritize safety for everyone—protesters exercising their rights and officers upholding the law. Join MAGA Buzz PAC in advocating for sensible reforms that protect our communities and our Constitution.
